Stephen Biebuyck werd geboren te Kortrijk in 1991. Op 9 jarige leeftijd startte hij zijn muzikale carrière aan de Kunstacademie Waregem en al snel was hij bezeten van zijn instrument saxofoon. Daarnaast ontplooide hij zich verder muzikaal in piano en slagwerk aan diezelfde academie.
In 2009 begon hij zijn studies aan LUCA School of Arts, campus Lemmens te Leuven in de klas van Nadine Bal. Gedurende deze studie groeide ook steeds meer de interesse voor het dirigeren. In 2014 behaalde Stephen zijn Master in de muziek – saxofoon en een jaar later volgde het bachelordiploma HaFaBra-directie bij Ivan Meylemans.
In 2018 startte Stephen zijn masteropleiding aan Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Fontys, Tilburg (NL) in de klas van Hardy Mertens. In 2020 mocht hij cum Laude het masterdiploma directie in ontvangst nemen.
In het kader van zijn opleidingen vervolmaakte Stephen zich in de saxofoon onder andere bij Jean-Denis Michat (FR), Joseph Wytko (US), Gerard McChristal(UK) en Günter Priesner (PL), en als dirigent volgde Stephen masterclasses bij onder andere Mark Heron(UK), Bjorn Sagstad (NO), Jan Cober (NL) en Alberto Roque (PT).
Stephen kon reeds werken met ensembles als de Koninklijke militaire muziekkapel Johan Willem Friso, Koninklijke Muziekvereniging De Leiezonen Desselgem en het VLAMO play-in orkest.
Naast zijn focus op HaFaBra verdiept hij zich steeds meer in het symfonische en opera repertoire. Zo dirigeerde hij in 2021 de kameropera ‘I Traviati’ van Damien Parmentier in organisatie van VOXAS en kon hij in 2022 in Italië aan de slag als assistent dirigent bij Sonia Ben-Santamaria en Felice Venanzoni voor de productie ‘Gianni Schicchi’ van Puccini.
Als dirigent is hij sinds 2022 verbonden aan de Christelijke Muziekvereniging Excelsior Cadzand (NL) en aan de Koninklijke Fanfare Hoger Op Woumen, waar hij eerder ook al instond voor de vernieuwde jeugdwerking.
Stephen Biebuyck was born in Kortrijk (BE) in 1991. At the age of 9, he began his musical studies at the Art Academy of his hometown, Waregem. He quickly grew very fond of the saxophone and he also developed skills in piano and percussion at this Art Academy.
He began his bachelors degree saxophone at LUCA School of Arts, campus Lemmens in Leuven (BE) in the class of Nadine Bal. During these studies his interest in conducting grew and a year after obtaining his masters degree in saxophone (2014), he also obtained a bachelors degree in conducting with Ivan Meylemans.
In 2018, Stephen enrolled in the masters conducting program at Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Fontys, Tilburg (NL) in the class of Hardy Mertens. In 2020 he received his masters degree Cum Laude.
During his studies, Stephen was able to learn from saxophonists as Jean-Denis Michat (FR), Joseph Wytko (US), Gerard McChristal(UK) and Günter Priesner (PL), and he had workshops as a conductor with, amongst others, Mark Heron(UK), Bjorn Sagstad (NO), Jan Cober (NL) and Alberto Roque (PT).
Stephen had the opportunity to work with ensembles as the Royal Military Band Johan Willem Friso (NL), the Royal Music Association De Leiezonen Desselgem (BE) and the VLAMO play-in orchestra. Apart from his focus on band, he is shifting his focus on the symphonic and operatic genre. In 2021 he conducted the chamber opera ‘I Traviati’ by Damien Parmentier in a production by VOXAS and in 2022 he was assistant conductor to Sonia Ben-Santamaria and Felice Venanzoni in Italy for the production of ‘Gianni Schicchi’ by Puccini.
As a conductor, he has been associated since 2022 with the Christian Music Association Excelsior Cadzand (NL) and the Royal Fanfare Hoger Op Woumen (B), where he was previously involved in the renewed Youth works.
